Some conservatives have decided to think that Gen Z will be their answer to Millennials. This is based 100% on wishful thinking. I am not saying that this is impossible. History is full of examples of younger generations being more conservative than older ones. But, when it comes to American politics, there is very little data on Gen Z. And what data there is puts them firmly in the liberal camp, by American standards. First, race tends to be highly deterministic in American politics. Yes, you can point to individuals who buck the trend. Hell, you could even point to millions of individuals who do so, but it’s the overall patterns that matter. About 130 million people voted. Among those, 12% were Black. That’s 15.6 million Black voters. Among those, 8% voted for Trump. That’s 1.25 million Black Trump voters. Is that a lot? Well, yes, if you line them up, that’s a lot of people. But what matters is proportions. Likewise, you could find a lot of young conservatives. Maybe your entire school is conservative. But does that matter? It will depend on whether your school is representative of the entire post-Millennial population.
